1. KTM 125 SX

Original MSRP: $8,099

The KTM125SX is a premier motocross bike. KTM is also one of the few brands that still produce two-stroke 125cc dirt bikes meaning that the technology on these 125cc dirt bikes is up to par with that of the modern 250cc and 450cc motocross bikes.

Some of the most notable features that make this 125cc dirt bike stand out:

  • Electronic fuel injection(EFI)
  • Electric start
  • Electronic Power Valve
  • WP suspension
  • Hydro-formed, laser-cut, and robot-welded frame
  • 6-Speed transmission
  • Brembo hydraulic brakes

This 125cc dirt bike is designed with motocross in mind. If you’re a beginner, or just looking for something to trail ride or cruise around your yard, it may be worth considering some of the other options on the list.

2. Husqvarna TC 125

Original MSRP: $8,199

If you were not already aware, KTM acquired ownership of Husqvarna in 2013. With this being said, these dirt bikes share many of the same features with just a few subtle differences such as:

  • Price: The 2024 TC125 retails for $100 more than the 2024 125SX
  • Seat height: The 125SX has a seat height that is 0.7 inches higher than the TC125
  • Plastics and fork guards

Electronic fuel injection and electric start is also a standard feature on this 125cc dirt bike. While you may think these extra features will take away from the nimble characteristics of a 125, this isn’t necessarily true. With this 125 dirt bike weighing in at 203 pounds, it is nearly 50 pounds lighter than most modern 450cc dirt bikes.

3. GasGas MC 125

Original MSRP: $7,349

With the GasGas dirt bikes being another spin-off of a KTM, don’t be disappointed just yet. The benefit of riding a GasGas is that they typically wait a year or two to incorporate the technology that KTM or Husqvarna features.

While this may sound like a bad thing, that’s not necessarily true. GasGas ensures that their dirt bikes are completely race ready before release, which means they will not be featuring any new technology that could potentially have bugs and glitches which could result in a DNF(did not finish).

GasGas has been rising in popularity over the past few years, with Justin Barcia being the headliner. As my personal favorite motocross racer, I look forward to seeing Justin’s future onboard the GasGas dirt bike team and what they’re able to bring to the table.

4. Yamaha YZ125

Original MSRP: $6,999

The Yamaha YZ125 is a direct competitor with the KTM 125SX, Husqvarna TC125, and GasGas MC125. This 125cc dirt bike has been a favorite among many motocross racers for decades.

Some of the stand-out features of the Yamaha YZ125:

  • Lightweight aluminum frame
  • KYB suspension
  • Patented Yamaha Power Valve System
  • Close-ratio six-speed transmission
  • High performance braking system

Apart from the great handling characteristics and usable power throughout the rev range, the Yamaha YZ125 has sleek styling that many riders prefer over the KTMs.

5. Kawasaki KLX125

Used Price Range: $1,500-$3,000

While the KLX125 may not be a monster, this is the perfect 125cc dirt bike for beginners, trail riders, or even someone looking to build a pit bike.

This 125cc dirt bike features a four-stroke engine with a smooth power range making it ideal whether you ride trails or are just looking for a dirt bike to learn the basics on.

If your a fan of pit bikes or flat track, this 125cc dirt bike has unlimited aftermarket upgradeability. Basically anything can be upgraded on this dirt bike, from the engine to the wheels and tires. With the proper budget, your even able to swap the suspension from a KX85, which makes this a full blown motocross pit bike.

6. Suzuki DRZ125

Original MSRP: $3,499

While the Suzuki DRZ125 and the Kawasaki KLX125 were basically twins for many years(apart from the plastics and graphics), Kawasaki discontinued the KLX125 in 2008 and replaced it with the KLX140. Suzuki did not stop producing this 125cc dirt bike, however, as the DRZ125 is still available and is still one of the best trail bikes or pit bikes on the market.

Unlike the Honda CRF125F, this 125 dirt bike does not feature fuel injection or electric start. Suzuki has been one of the only brands to keep it old school with their kick starters – even with their motocross bikes.

7. Honda CRF125F

Original MSRP: $3,499

Honda is the most popular dirt bike brand, and there is a reason behind this. Honda offers various models to suit your size and riding style from 50cc all the way up to 450cc, and bigger motorcycles. Here are the features you should keep in mind when considering a CRF125F:

  • Electronic fuel injection
  • Electric starter and kick starter
  • 4 speed transmission
  • Front disc brake

Overall, the Honda CRF125F is among one of the top choices for a 125cc dirt bike, as long as it matches your riding style. The electric start allows for more time riding and less time kicking, while the electronic fuel injection ensures that you have smooth power throughout the entire RPM range.

8. Yamaha TT-R125

Original MSRP: $3,399

The Yamaha TT-R125 is one of the best 125cc dirt bikes to look for if your seeking reliability and ease of use. For years, the TT-R has featured electric start making it that much easier for you to hop on and ride.

Here are some of the notable features of the Yamaha TT-R125:

  • Mikuni VM20 carburetor
  • 5-speed transmission with multiplate wet clutch
  • Telescopic front forks with adjustable preload
  • Single rear shock with adjustable compression and rebound
  • Hydraulic front disc brake

Whether your just starting out on dirt bikes, or simply want something enjoyable to putt around the yard on, this 125 dirt bike could be the perfect choice for you.

9. Apollo RFZ Pit Bike 125cc

Original MSRP: $1,599

Apollo makes dirt bikes that are fun and affordable for anyone. The Apollo RFZ 125cc is more of a pit bike than a motocross bike, with smaller wheels than compared to other 125 dirt bikes.

Features of the Apollo RFZ:

  • 4.7L fuel tank
  • 125cc YTX engine
  • Suitable for younger riders or adults
  • 17″ front wheel and 14″ rear wheel
  • “Wheel Gripster” in the rear tire to prevent valve tearing
  • VOLT suspension

With a starting price of $1,599 or even cheaper on Amazon(yes, you can buy this dirt bike on Amazon), this is a great choice if you are looking to get your child into a new hobby. However, with this 125cc pit bike being suitable by adults too – you may end up riding it more than your kid!

10. X-PRO 125cc Pit Bike

Original MSRP: $699

Similar to the Apollo RFZ, this is another budget pit bike that can be purchased on Amazon, at a fraction of the price of the other 125 dirt bikes. This 125cc dirt bike has 6 color choices from you to choose from. On top of this, you’ll see the following features:

  • Manual four-speed transmission
  • 17″ front wheel and 14″ rear wheel
  • Lighter cradle-type steel tube frame

With minor assembly after receiving this 125cc pit bike in the mail, you or your child can be having hours of fun on a budget!
